LifeStream is appealing to local residents to give blood as local supplies are down to a single day.
Most needed at this time are blood types O positive and O negative; however, all blood donations are needed and welcomed.
O-negative is the “universal donor” and may be accepted by any patient requiring transfusions. Ample supplies are essential to local ER and trauma teams to treat and stabilize patients. But those with O-negative – about 7 percent of the population – can only accept the same type if transfusion needs arise.
O-positive blood can be safely transfused into about 85 percent of the population.
Through Saturday, March 10, LifeStream is offering O-negative and O-positive donors who give blood at a center or mobile drive a “bonus” of $15 worth of Gift of Life Donor Loyalty points for use to ”purchase” items in the online donor store.
Walk-ins are welcome; appointments may be made by calling 800-879-4484 or going to LStream.org.
