
There are reports that members of the controversial Westboro Baptist Church will protest the funeral of a fallen army soldier in Yucaipa today. 20 year old Nathan Tyler Davis was killed by a roadside bomb in Afghanistan on June 9.
A celebration of life is planned today at Yucaipa Christian Church and they are multiple reports that the Kansas based church has said it will protest, but there is no mention of the protest on the Westboro web site and in the past the church hasn’t always followed through on its announced protests. Still Communtiy organizers are planning a massive show of support for Davis and his family.
The driver of an RV was killed when it slammed into a restaurant and bar in Lake Elsinore. The crash occurred just after 9:45 a.m. Thursday along the 18800 block of Grand Avenue. The “Riverside Press-Enterprise” reports that the CHP says the RV was seen speeding southbound on Grand Avenue and weaving in and out of traffic before it veered off the road and into Lazey J’s Roadhouse. The owner reported there is extensive damage to the building and it will be about two weeks before it will reopen.
A free three-day health clinic is set to start today at the National Orange Show in San Bernardino. Molina Healthcare will be offering free health services Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Children and adults will have an opportunity to receive dental, vision, primary care, exams, health screenings, vaccines and acupuncture services. After 13 years of planning construction is finally underway on the French Valley Parkway in Temecula. The 200-million-dollar project will add a new exit to Interstate 15 and will give drivers an alternative from the always-congested Winchester Road offramp. Construction is expected to last up to 18 months.
Several major banks are getting their credit ratings trimmed by Moody’s. The agency announced yesterday that it’s cutting the ratings of Morgan Stanley, Bank of America, Citigroup, JPMorgan and Goldman Sachs plus several European institutions. The dow jones dropped 251 points yesterday but futures are up this morning.
LeBron James has completed his quest for his first NBA championship. James and the Miami Heat defeated the Oklahoma City Thunder, 121-106, in Game Five of the NBA Finals last night. James was named Finals MVP.
