
A mini heat wave is on its way…with temperatures reachig triple digits in many areas of the Inland Empire today. Forecasters say temps will be 8 to 12 degrees above normal over the next two days with highs up to 105. The heat will drop a little on Wednesday but the humidity is expected to increase.
The murder trial for Ricky Lee Fowler, the man accused of setting the devastating Old Fire in 2003 begins in San Bernardino today. Fowler faces the death penalty if convicted of causing five of the six deaths he’s charged with. The Old Fire burned for nine days and destroyed over 91-thousand acres, over one-thousand homes and caused 45-million dollars in damage.
Meantime–two buildings were destoyed by fire at a Redlands cement plant yesterday. Damage is put at $500,000.
Hollywood is mourning the death of Oscar winner Ernest Borgnine who died yesterday at the age of 95. Borgnine won the academy award in 1955 for his role in the movie Marty and later in 1960′s became a familiar face on TV in the hit show McHales Navy.
Longtime Inland Empire entertainment reporter Bob Sokolsky died over the weekend from complications of parkinson disease. Sokolsky was 84.
