
A week after deciding to file for bankruptcy, the San Bernardino city council will consider declaring a fiscal emergency during a meeting tonight. The move could speed up the bankruptcy proceedings. The city council is also expected to consider cutting city services. Faced with a $45 million dollar deficit, city officlas have said they may not be able to make payroll by the middle of August.
The last two defendants in a nearly three year old corruption case in San Jacinto won’t go to trial as planned because one of them having surgery. The “Press Enterprise” reports the trial against developer Robert Osborne and former San Jacinto City Councilman James Potts was to begin Friday, but Osborne had surgery to remove a kidney five days prior. The judge set July 23rd as a hearing date to see how he’s doing and if they can proceed. The two were caught up in corruption scheme in 2009 that saw nine people facing a 155 count indictment. Five developers and four city councilman were charged.
An 80-year-old Menifee woman has earned the name “Superwoman” for walking away with just scratches when two cars hit her in a parking lot, and one of them ran her over. The “Press Enterprise” says it happened Friday at a Vons on McCall Boulevard. Riverside County Sheriff’s Sergeant Glenn Williams called her the Woman of Steel. He said a man pulling his van out backed into her knocking her down. Then a woman, who later said she thought she drove over curb, literally ran over the woman with both front and rear tires before stopping. The victim was rushed to Inland Valley Medical Center and shortly released. Williams told the paper it’s amazing and he wants whatever the lady is eating or drinking.
President Obama says his campaign will not apologize for suggesting that Mitt Romney may have committed a crime at Bain Capital. The Republican presidential candidate called for an apology from the Obama campaign after it suggested last week that he may be guilty of a felony if he signed off on documents saying he was in charge of Bain at a time when he was not.
The price of gas continues to go nowhere but down. The latest numbers from the Lundberg Survey show the national average price of self-serve regular gas at three-41 a gallon. IE gas is averagin 3.66 a gallon.
“Ice Age: Continental Drift 3D” is the weekend box office winner. The fourth movie in the animated series notched a solid 46-million dollars in North America in its debut weekend to hold down the top spot. “The Amazing Spider-Man” sold 35-million-dollars.
