
In the wake of San Bernardino’s financial crisis, The San Bernardino Sun reports that at least 14 city workers have quit or retired in the last week. The city is facing a $45 million dollar budget deficit and planning to file chapter 9 bankruptcy. And the city council could decide as early as this evening to declare a fiscal emergency which would speed up the bankruptcy proceedings.
Actress Halle Berry was reportedly taken to a hospital after hitting her head on a movie set last night. According to TMZ, Berry fell and hit her head on concrete. She was taken to LA’s CedArs Sinal Medical Center. No word on her condition.
Riverside County supervisors today formally approved pension reforms expected to save the county millions of dollars a year. The supervisors voted to lower formulas for new hires and have all employees make contributions toward their own retirement plans. A second-tier pension plan will be established for public safety workers hired after August 16th. The reduced retirement benefits will net the county around 206-million dollars in savings over a decade.
Federal safety officials are looking into nearly a million SUVs over concerns about unintended acceleration. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says the probe involves 2001 to 2004 Ford Escapes and Mazda Tributes.

A wave of irate and abusive remarks has prompted the review site Rotten Tomatoes to suspend user comments on reviews of the upcoming Batman movie “The Dark Knight Rises.” After two negative articles about the movie appeared Monday, fans reacted angrily and began to post derogatory and threatening remarks about the reviewers.
