Hundreds of protesters gathered in front of Anaheim Police headquarters yesterday. They demonstrated against the recent officer-involved shootings that left two young men dead. At least nine arrests were reported. A total of seven officer-involved shootings have occurred this year in Anaheim.

The accused gunman in the deadly mass shooting at an Aurora, Colorado movie theater is set to be formally charged this morning. Twenty-four-year-old James Holmes will appear in court to hear the official charges against him in connection with the shooting spree.

Police are asking for the public’s help in finding the so-called “Plain Jane Bandit,” a woman wanted for a string of armed bank robberies in Southern California including two in Moreno Valley. A ten-thousand dollar reward is being offered for information about the robber, described as a Hispanic woman, 35 to 40 years old, five-foot-three to five-foot-five-inches and weighing 150 to 170 pounds, with a possible scar near her right eye.

Michael Phelps is among six Americans advancing to this afternoon semifinals. Phelps swam the fifth fastest time in his signature event, the 200-meter butterfly, and will join fellow American Tyler Clary in the semifinal. The U.S. men’s gymnastics team goes for gold today in the finals of the team competition. The Team USA men’s and women’s beach volleyball teams will be in action later today. The US is second to China in the medal count with 11 medals.
