The “Plain Jane” bandit has struck again, this time in Downey. Monday’s afternoons hold up occured at a Bank of America branch on Paramount Boulvard. According to the FBI, the middle-aged woman has robbed numerous banks in Southern California including two in Moreno Valley. A $10,000 reward is being offered.

The city of San Bernardino’s financial problems has led to speculation that the popular Stater Bros. Route 66 Rendezvous could move from downtown to the Glen Helen Regional Park in Devore. The city has declared a frinancial emergency and plans to file for bankruptcy. Stater Bros. CEO Jack Brown tells the Press Enterprise that he doesn’t support a change of venue and would rather see the event canceled this year than moved.

Former Laker Matt Barnes was arrested in Manhatten Beach last night on an outstanding warrant for driving on a suspended license. Barnes has since been released on bail. Barnes spent the last two seasons with the Lakers but is now a free agent.

Apple is reportedly set to unveil its latest iPhone in the coming weeks. The website iMore.com claims the event is set for September 12th, with an on sale date of the 21st. Rumors are that the new iPhone will be thinner with a larger screen.

At the London Summer games, teen sensation Missy Franklin will try to follow up her gold-medal performance in yesterday’s 100-meter backstroke in todays final of the 200-meter freestyle. Riverside Poly graduate Tyler Clary and Michael Phelps will swim for the gold in the 200-meter butterfly today. China and the United States share the lead in the overall medal count with 17 each.
