The Buck fire south of Hemet has grown to three-thousand acres and is only 15 percent contained this morning. The fire started yesterday afternoon along Sage Road in remote rangeland and has claimed at least one home. Mandatory evacuations have been ordered for nearly three-dozen homes in the Aguanga area. An evacuation center has been set up at the Recreation Community Center in Temecula. One person was seriously burned and two firefighters suffered minor injuries. No word on how the fire started.

The state’s DMV computer system is back up and running following a crash yesterday morning that caused frustration for customers and staffers alike. At the Redlands office, people waited in line for up to four hours. Officials say the cause was a broken router and that all offices will be open today during regular business hours.

More than a million and a half illegal immigrants can begin applying today for an Obama administration program that lets them avoid deportation, at least temporarily. The two-year deportation reprieve is available to illegal immigrants with no criminal record who came to the U.S. before they were 16 and who are currently no older than 30.

Actor Ron Palillo who played Horshack on the 70′s sitcom Welcome Back Kotter died at his Florida home yesterday of an apparent heart attack. He was 63.
