The man accused of starting the deadly 2003 Old Fire has been convicted of murder and arson. 30 year old Rickie Lee Fowler was found guilty of five counts of first degree murder and two counts of arsons and could now face the death penalty. The Old Fire burned 91,000 acres in San Bernardino County, destroyed a thousand homes and caused the heart attack deaths of at least five people.The penalty pahse of his trial begins next week.

Firefighters are getting a handle on the Inland Empire’s biggest brush fire of the year. The Buck fire south of Hemet has burned nearly 2700 acres, destroyed at least one home and is 40 percent contained. Full containment is expected by Saturday morning.
