Forecasters say a round of powerful storms today could reach the valleys. The National Weather Service says a chance of thunderstorms is expected over the mountains, high deserts and the eastern portions of the inland valleys this afternoon and evening. Rain, lightening and high winds pounded Redlands yesterday knocking out power to more than 800 customers. The storm knocked down trees and utility poles and sparked a fire near Big Bear. No injuries were reported.

Clean up is already getting started in New Orleans a day after Hurricane Isaac slammed the Gulf Coast. But ongoing power outages are making the process difficult. There’s word this morning of at least one storm-related death in Louisiana and an estimated 950-thousand customers are still in the dark

A car driven by a 100 year old man slammed in to 9 children and 2 adults in Los Angeles yesterday afternoon. The man claimed his brakes failed. At least two people were hospitalized but their injuries were not considered life threantening.

A quake measuring 4.1 rattled the Yorba Linda area at 130 yesterday afternoon. There are reports of any damage.

San Bernardino City Council has voted use the bankrupt city’s “restricted funds” to help pay for day-to-day operations, including an eight-million-dollar monthly payroll bill. More than 100 city hall positions could be eliminated under a new proposed budget plan.

Eddie Van Halen is recovering from emergency surgery for a severe digestive problem. He is expected to make a full recovery. However, Eddie will be laid up for the next four to six months. So Van Halen won’t be returning to the road this fall.
