
Investigators say a cluster of brush fires in the Cajon Pass yesterday afternoon are not suspicious in nature. Crews launched a fierce air and ground assault when the flames broke out around 3 p.m. yesterday. The largest fire charred ten acres of vegetation near Kenwood Boulevard and was expected to be fully contained sometime this morning. Two smaller fires burned about a half-acre each higher in the Pass. No injuries were reported, but two structures were destroyed.
About 20 people were trapped hundreds of feet in the air on the Windseeker ride at Knott’s Berry Farm yesterday afternoon for more than three hours. That same ride broke earlier this month leaving riders in limbo for several hours. Nobody has been reported hurt.
Officials at Folsom Prison are updating information on yesterday’s riot. They now say as many as 60 inmates were involved with 13 injured. The “Sacramento Bee” reports that guards tried to break up the fights, but finally resorted to using their rifles, firing at least six shots. One inmate was hit. No guards were injured.
The Space Shuttle Endeavour has left Houston for another leg of its cross-country trek today to its new home at the California Science Center in Los Angeles. Endeavour and its escort are making their way to Edwards Air Force Base today where it will spend the night before flying to LAX tomorrow.
