No serious injuries have been reported after a strong odor prompted an evacuation at Loma Linda University Medical Center. Operating rooms, a portion of the emergency room and the lobby were evacuated yesterday morning. Officials say adhesive roofing materials was being applied to the building and passed through the air intake system. The hospital was reopened at about 4:30 yesterday afternoon.

A suspected car burglar has been shot to death by San Jacinto police.  An officer responded to a vehicle break-in yesterday morning in the 900 block of Hisse Drive.  The officer opened fire when the suspect failed to comply with his orders and grabbed a dark object from the center console.  The suspect died after being transported to a hospital and the officer was placed on administrative leave.

Local cases of sexual misconduct within the Boy Scouts are part of newly opened files.  A court order yesterday forced the Boy Scouts of America to release its so-called “perversion files” that sex abuse victims say was used to shield molesters for 25 years.  Troop leaders in Desert Hot Springs, Idyllwild, Indio and Twentynine Palms are among hundreds listed in the 14-thousand-page report.

The search continues for a man who attempted to abduct a Riverside girl. Police say the attacker grabbed the student from behind at Eucalyptus Avenue and Fifth Street on Monday morning. She was on her way to John North High School when the attack happened.

A Cuban newspaper in Miami is reporting that Former Cuban leader Fidel Castro has suffered a severe stroke that has left him unable to speak, recognize people, or even eat. The 86-year-old Castro has not been seen in public since March.

Researchers say simply by testing for high levels of certain hormones in the blood, it may be possible to determine a woman’s risk of breast cancer decades in advance. High levels of three specific hormones, including testosterone, could indicate a woman’s likelihood of developing breast cancer some 20 years ahead of time.

If all of the all-knowing tabloid “sources” really do know, Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel will be husband and wife by the end of the weekend. “US Weekly” says the celebrity couple will tie the knot in Italy.
