A CHP officer was stabbed multiple times in a confrontation with a man who was trying to climb the fence on the La Sierra overpass of the 91 in Riverside last night. The officer was stabbed multiple times in the eye, face, neck, arms and back. He is hospitalized but expected to survive. 45 year old Javier Rios is jailed for attempted murder on a police officer.

It was a tough drive out of the high desert this morning after a fatal crash in the Cajon Pass. The crash involved a big rig and several cars just past the brake check on southbound I-15. A man was reportedly killed. Three lanes were closed for the investigation. Lanes have now been reopened.

The Santa Ana winds are creating a high risk of brush fires in the Inland Empire and throughout Southern California. A Red Flag Alert for high fire danger has been extended until six p.m. tomorrow night Winds will gust up to 65 miles per hour in some areas.

If current forecasts hold up, Hurricane Sandy could be the worst storm to hit the Northeast in 100 years. Meteorologists say Sandy could ultimately combine with a second storm coming out of the Midwest to create a type of “Frankenstorm” that could hammer much of the East Coast.

The Lake Elsinore man accused of murdering his girlfriend and hiding her body in a suitcase will appear in court today. Joseph Dorsey was captured this week in Mexico. Police have been looking for him since last August when they found Christine Stewart’s body inside a suitcase at a Poway motel.

Madison Bumgarner fired seven shutout innings as the Giants blanked the Tigers, 2-0, in Game Two of the World Series. The game was also memorable for an appearance by injured Giants fan Brian Stow, who was attacked outside Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles last season. The Giants lead the series two to nothing.
