
There will be no third Phil Jackson Era in Los Angeles. Rumors swirled that the Lakers would re-hire Jackson after firing their coach Mike Brown on Friday. But the LA Times says negotiations with Jackson broke down after the team found his asking price too high. Late last, the Lakers signed former Knicks and Suns coach Mike D’Antoni to be the team’s next head coach. D’Antoni inked a three-year deal worth 12-million dollars. D’Antoni is recovering from knee replacement surgery and is expected to join the team in a week or two.

Some legislators are saying the FBI and the administration should have officially notified Congress earlier, while others are saying Petraeus should not have stepped down at all.
A warrant is out for the arrest of a Colton police detective accused of embezzling 165-thousand dollars from his own police union. The “San Bernardino Sun” says the D.A. has filed charges against 45-year-old Wesley Bruhn. Bruhn was put on administrative leave in August.
Two men are dead after an accident on the elevated 91 Freeway connector to Interstate 15. The “Press Enterprise” reports 19-year-old Mariano Perez of Corona lost control of his truck yesterday morning and wound up facing west in the eastbound lane. When a second car headed towards him, the CHP says he must have tried to get out of the way and fell 30 feet over the guardrail to his death. The second driver who hit his truck, 53-year-old Richard Gonsalves, died at the scene from his injuries.
Los Angeles’ first-ever freeway toll lanes face their first rush-hour test this morning, when Harbor Freeway commuters return to work for the first time since the lights, digital signs and electronic security gear were turned on above the Metro Express Lanes, Saturday night. Solo drivers must pay to get transponders before using the so-called High Occupancy Toll Lanes on the 110 freeway between Carson and Exposition Park in South L.A. The actual toll varies depending on the time of day. Carpool drivers who register with the Metropolitan Transportation Authority get free transponders that let them continue using what had been old-fashioned carpool lanes.
