A murder investigation is underway in San Bernardino where an elderly woman was found dead. The body of 76-old Mary Blaskey was discovered yesterday in her Fremontia Drive home. Police say the victim’s son made the gruesome discovery. He also noticed Blaskey’s home was ransacked and her Lexus stolen. Police have not identified a suspect.

A veteran LA Cpounty sheriffs deputy has been arrested for murder. 41 year old Francisco Gamez was arrested Wednesday for a fatal off duty shooting in Sylmar back in June. He is being held on $4 million dollars bail.

California’s finances are improving thanks to the economic recovery, budget cuts and the passage of Proposition 30. The Legislative Analyst’s Office says the state will face a one-point-nine billion dollar deficit through June of 2014, which is much smaller than last year’s 13-billion dollar deficit.

The FDA is citing a popular energy drink in more than a dozen deaths around the nation. Officials say a recent FDA filing included reports of 13 deaths over the past four years when the victim had taken Five-Hour Energy. The makers of Five Hour Energy say their product is safe when used as directed.

Three Congressional committees will be focusing on the deadly September attack on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi, Libya, today. Four Americans were killed, including Ambassador Christopher Stevens. The House Intelligence Committee, Senate Intelligence Committee, and House Foreign Affairs Committee are all holding hearings on the Benghazi attack.

President Obama travels to New York City today, for the first time since his reelection. Obama and Governor Andrew Cuomo will fly over of areas hit hard by Sandy. Obama also meets with New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg in Staten Island.

A number of sources say BP has reached an agreement with the U.S. Department of Justice to plead guilty to criminal misconduct in the 2010 Gulf of Mexico oil spill. It’s expected to result in the largest criminal penalty in U.S. history. The April 20th, 2010 Deepwater Horizon rig explosion killed eleven workers and washed up oil on the shorelines of four states.

The 19-year-old daughter of Jon Bon Jovi is okay but facing charges after allegedly overdosing on heroin at her upstate New York college. Police responded to a dorm room at Hamilton College early Wednesday after someone reported Stephanie Rose Bongiovi as unresponsive.
