President Obama told the grief-stricken people of Newtown, Connecticut, quote, “You are not alone.” At an interfaith memorial service, the President said the entire country was shocked and saddened by Friday’s deadly shooting spree at an elementary school. Twenty young children and six adults were shot to death at Sandy Hook Elementary School. The first funerals are schduled today.

Senator Dianne Feinstein says she will introduce a bill to reinstate the federal ban on assault weapons. Appearing on NBC’s “Meet The Press,” the California Democrat said that the bill will ban the sale, transfer, importation and possession of assault weapons, and ban ammunition clips of more than ten rounds.

An investigation is underway in Fontana where a disabled man was killed in a house fire yesterday morning.  Crews found 63-year-old Gilbert Angulo in the hallway of his Arrow Boulevard home ten minutes after the fire was reported.  Angulo’s family told the “Press Enterprise” he was wheelchair-bound.  The cause of the fire is under investigation, but fire officials believe it started in a bedroom.

Animal control officers are investigating a Lake Elsinore reptile-breeding business after some 700 dead reptiles and rodents were found at the facility.  The “Press-Enterprise” says the carcasses were discovered Wednesday at Global Captive Breeders on Third Street.  A probe was launched after county officials received complaints about the breeders from PETA and other animal rights groups.  No arrests have been made.

The US Postal Service expects today to be its busiest mailing day of the season.  An estimated 655-million cards, letters and packages will be processed nationwide.

“The Hobbit” is breaking records at theaters in the U.S. and Canada.  The highly anticipated Peter Jackson film won the weekend box office race with an estimated take of 84-point-seven million dollars, an all-time record for a December release.
