Classes are back in session at nearly all public schools in Newtown, Connecticut today. Only Sandy Hook Elementary School where 20 children and six adults were murdered Friday remains closed. Yesterday, all faculty and staff attended a session with a national expert on children and bereavement, then met with state mental health counselors to prepare for today.

A national sporting goods chain is reportedly halting the sale of certain semi-automatic rifles at its stores nationwide. Dick’s Sporting Goods has also cleared all guns from its store closest to Newtown, Connecticut.

A Moreno Valley high school student is accused of threatening to shoot his teacher. Eighteen-year-old Fernando Hernandez was arrested yesterday on suspicion of making terrorist threats. Police say the Canyon Springs High School student slipped his teacher a threatening note, and she notified authorities. Deputies searched the student’s home and found a legally-purchased, bolt-action rifle and ammunition.

President Obama and House Speaker John Boehner  may be getting closer to a budget deal.  Obama responded yesterday to Boehner’s weekend offer of higher tax rates on household incomes above a million dollars.  Obama proposed higher rates on household incomes above 400-thousand dollars, and spending cuts of 200-billion dollars.

McDonald’s Corporation is asking its U.S. restaurant owners to open on Christmas Day. The chain has traditionally been closed on major holidays.

“People’s” “Sexiest Man Alive” is about to become its “sexiest dad alive.” Channing Tatum and his wife Jenna are expecting a baby. They tied the knot in 2009.
