An Orange County doctor was shot to death in an exam room at his Newport Beach clinic.. Urologist Dr. Ronald Gilbert was shot multiple times at the Hoag Health Center. An elderly man is in custody. The suspect’s name has not been released, but there are reports that the suspects car was registered to a 75 year old man in Lake Elsinore.

Convicted Old Fire arsonist and murderer Rickie Lee Fowler has been sentenced to death. A Superior Court Judge accepted the jury’s recommendation yesterday and handed Fowler the death sentence. The 31-year-old was found guilty of starting the Old Fire in the San Bernardino Mountains nearly a decade ago. Five people died of stress-related issues.

The Boy Scouts are considering a policy allowing local chapters to decide if they want to admit homosexuals individually. Scouting officials say the chapters would then be in control based on religious beliefs or other qualifications. An announcement could come as soon as next week.

Drivers who talk or text on their cell phone while driving are more likely to engage in other risky behavior behind the wheel. The Auto Club of Southern California study says those other behaviors include driving while drowsy, driving without a seat belt and speeding.
