The California Highway Patrol now says eight-to-ten people are dead and at least 38 are in the hospital after a tour bus crash on Highway 38  east of Mentone last night. CHP investigators say the tour bus from Tijuana, Mexico apparently rear-ended a car, then flipped over and hit a pickup truck pulling a trailer while coming down from Big Bear on state Highway 38. The driver says he’d had been having brake problems just before the 6:30 p.m. accident left the highway littered with debris and the bus lying sideways across both traffic lanes, its front end crushed. Caltrans spokeswoman Michelle Profant told KCBS-TV in Los Angeles that the violence of the accident was shocking, adding that, quote, “It’s really a mess up there with body parts.” The bus was believed to be carrying Mexican tourists on a return trip from Big Bear.  Highway 38 is expected to be closed all day. You can use Highway 330 or 18 as alternatives.
