A Riverside police officer was reportedly shot and killed early this morning and a second officer injured allegedly by a former LAPD officer who is suspected of killing an Irvine couple over the weekend. The officers were shot while sitting in a patrol car at a red light at Magnolia and Arlington at about 1:35 am. A police spokesman describes it as an “ambush”. The injured officer was critically injured and was in surgery at last word. A third officer was shot and injured in Corona. He may have been an off duty LAPD officer. His injuries were not life threatening. Authorities say fired LAPD officer 33 year old Christopher Dorner, who has written a manifesto saying he is seeking revenge for his termination in 2009, is the chief suspect. The couple killed in Irvine included the daughter of one of Dorner’s former supervisors. In the manifesto, Dorner says “I have the strength and benefits of being unpredictable, unconventional, and unforgiving.”
Dorner is described as African American, six feet tall, 270 pounds and is believed to be driving a blue Nissan Titan pick up truck with a license plate number of 8D83987 or 7X09131.
** A TV station in San Diego reports that Christopher Dorner’s ID and badge were found in an airport shuttle near Lindbergh Field this morning.
**Notre Dame High School in Riverside has cancelled classes today because of the massive amount of police activity in the area.
**Police in San Diego say a man matching Dorner’s description tied up an elderly man and attempted unsuccessfully to steal the man’s boat last night.
