
Suspected cop killer Christopher Dorner now officially faces a murder charge as the manhunt continues. Riverside County DA Paul Zellerbach has charged Dorner with the murder of Riverside police officer Michael Crain. He also faces three additional counts of attempted murder of a police officer. Dorner is also suspected of killing an Irvine couple
Meantime, the LA Times reports that Dorner may have fled to Mexico…that according to a document filed in federal court. The document indicates he might have been assisted by an associate identified only as “JY”. The One million dollar reward for Dorner is expected to be raised by another $100,000 today.
North Korea is coming under universal condemnation following word that it has carried out a third nuclear test. A nuclear test monitoring agency in Vienna says the blast was about twice as big as a test in 2009. Nations condemning the test include China, which is North Korea’s only major ally and economic supporter.
President Obama will devote much of his State of the Union address to the economy tonight. Obama is also expected to repeat calls for sweeping gun safety measures and immigration reform.
A regular on A&E’s “Storage Wars” was found dead on Monday just days before a scheduled court appearance on drug charges. Mark Balelo was often shown as a buyer on the TV program. He was found dead in a car with the motor running parked outside his Simi Valley auction house.
The Beach Boys reunion appears to be over, at least for the time being. Brian Wilson addressed the issue backstage at the Grammys, telling reporters he doubts that he, Mike Love, Al Jardine, Bruce Johnston, and David Marks will be working together again in the foreseeable future. The band’s classic lineup came back together last year, launching their 50th anniversary celebration at the 2012 Grammy Awards then embarking on an extensive, six-month tour that wrapped up in late September. They also released a new album last June.
But as the trek was winding down Love announced more dates for his own incarnation of the band, which doesn’t include Wilson, Jardine, or Marks. At the time Love, who owns the rights to the Beach Boys name, claimed the reunion wasn’t intended to be an open-ended run but something special.
