

A brush fire burned through palm trees and brush in the Santa Ana River bottom near Jurupa Regional Park yesterday, but it has slowed down over night. The blaze started just before 5:00 yesterday afternoon in Jurupa Valley and has charred between 150 and 175 acres. 2 structures have been damaged. Evacuation orders have been lifted, but about 1800 residents are without power. The blaze is 20 percent contained. But strong fireifghters are concerned because strong winds are in todays forecast
Eighty-five-billion dollars in spending cuts are now due to start taking effect by midnight tonight. Congressional leaders head to the White House this morning to talk with President Obama. The President has been urging lawmakers to take steps to avert the scheduled cuts.

A transgender woman who was kicked out of her college in Riverside is now suing the university. Lawyers for 25-year-old Domaine Javier tell the “Riverside Press Enterprise” Javier was expelled from California Baptist University in August of 2011 after she revealed on an MTV television show that she is biologically male. The lawsuit claims Cal Baptist is guilty of violating the state’s anti-discrimination laws. Documents from the university connected to the lawsuit say Javier was booted from the school for “fraud, or concealing identity.”
