Over 50 Temecula Valley Unified employees will receive preliminary layoff notices. The school board yesterday voted in favor of the cuts, which include nearly 40 teaching positions. They’re driven by proposed staffing changes in charter schools and drops in enrollment.

The parents of a Cal State San Bernardino student gunned down by campus police have filed a wrongful death lawsuit. Officers shot and killed 38-year-old Bartholomew Williams in an off-campus housing complex last December. They said they feared for their safety when Williams became aggressive. The parents’ complaint alleges that police failed to seek help from mental health officials for their bi-polar son, who was registered as a disabled student.

It appears Rialto’s utility users tax has been extended for another five years. Initial returns in yesterday’s special election show 63 percent of voters favored Measure W.

U.S. oil industry leaders are wondering if Venezuela’s oil industry might welcome foreign investment following the death of President Hugo Chavez. Chavez nationalized Venezuela’s oil industry in 2007.He died yesterday after a lengthy battle with cancer.

Accused murderer Jodi Arias is going to have to answer questions from the jury today in Phoenix.  Arizona law allows jurors to ask questions to those testifying in trials.  They have about 100 questions for Arias.  Arias is accused of murdering her lover, Travis Alexander, in 2008.

Investors are hoping for more of the same today after the Dow Jones closed out Tuesday at an all-time high gaining 126 points.

San Bernardino County is home to one of the nation’s highest number of commuters. Roughly 240-thousand San Bernardino County residents travel 30 minutes one-way compared to the national average of about 25 minutes. The Census Bureau says 31 percent of workers in the county live elsewhere, like LA or Riverside counties.
