Wet weather is continuing in the Inland empire this morning but we are expecting some clearing later today. Scattered showers are still falling in areas of the IE and a winter weather advisory is in effect in our local mountains above 5500 feet until 11 this morning. The highest elevations could get more than 6 inches of snow. Temps should be back in the 70′s by Halloween.

An assistant baseball coach at Corona’s Santiago high school was killed in a hit and run motorcycle crash in Boyle Heights Monday morning. 54 year old Ken Hamilton was driving home from a juvenile detention facility where he worked when he was hit by a car. A memorial service is planned on the school’s baseball field thi Saturday.

A woman who has spent over half of her life in prison for murdering her ex-pimp at a Riverside hotel in 1994 will be released by the end of the week. Sara Kruzan was originally sentenced to life without parole but had her sentence commuted by Governor Schwarzenegger . Kruzan was 16 years old when she killed her former pimp. Her case has been championed by activists against child sex trafficking.

Authorities are investigating a suspicious fire that destroyed a home in San Bernardino,.  Firefighters raced to the home at G and Spruce streets early Monday morning to find the residence fully engulfed.  No injuries were reported.  The fire is said to be suspicious in nature, with authorities saying the residence had caught on fire on three separate occasions in the past before Monday’s fire.

The city of Upland is on the verge of bankruptcy. That’s what City Manager Stephen Dunn told a meeting at City Hall over the weekend.  The “Daily Bulletin” reports despite a balanced budget, Upland needs at least three-and-a-half-million dollars to continue functioning and provide residents with the services they’re accustomed to.  Dunn said the urgency stems from a 2012 auditor’s report as well as the city’s credit rating agency, both of which conveyed their concerns about the city’s ability to remain fiscally solvent.

People who need to sign up for health insurance under the healthcare reform law now have six more weeks to do so. The Obama administration is extending the enrollment deadline to March 31st.
