Good news for the Inland Empire economy. Amazon has announced plans to build a large fulfillment center in Moreno Valley that will employ 1000 workers. That announcement came yesterday as Amazon and Governor Brown celebrated the one year anniversary of theirFulfillment Center in San Bernardino. The one-million-square-foot facility employs about 14-hundred full time workers. No word on when the Moreno Valley facility will open.

 

Authorities say a recently paroled rapist has made more than 50 threatening phone calls to the 80 year old victims family. 55 year old Dennis McKenzie was released to a half way house in Long Beach, but cut off his GPS ankle bracelet.

A felony warrant is now out for his arrest. McKenzie is known to frequent the Lake Arrowhead and Banning areas among others.

Northbound Interstate 15 was closed in Victorville for several hours last night after a pedestrian was struck and killed by a big rig. It’s not clear if it was an accident or a suicide. The victim is identified as 44 year old Matthew Wade Higgins of Victorville.

Authorities say a mother turned over her newborn baby boy to the San Bernardino Fire Department Sunday under the states safe surender law. The woman apparently didn’t know she was pregnant until giving birth at home. The safe surrender law allows women to give up a child who they may have otherwise abandoned within 72 hours of birth.

School administrators in Rancho Cucamonga want to take a closer look at safety precautions after a melee following a high school football game. The brawl broke out last Friday following the game between hometown rivals Los Osos and Rancho Cucamonga. At least two people were arrested.

U.S. Health Secretary Kathleen Sebelius is apologizing about the troubled launch of the HealthCare.Gov website. The site for the new healthcare exchanges has been riddled with glitches since its launch on October 1st. In testimony before the House Energy and Commerce Committee, Sebelius said she is as frustrated and angry as anyone and insisted the site “is fixable.”

Apple says it will replace iPhone 5-S models that have battery problems. Apple has announced that a “very limited number” of iPhone 5-S devices have a manufacturing issue that can cause the battery to take longer to charge, or run down sooner.

Singer Chris Brown has reportedly checked into rehab. The move comes just days after Brown was arrested after a fight outside a Washington DC hotel.
