Today is expected to be the busiest mailing day of the year. Postal officials expect to handle at least 600 million pieces of mail. Wednesday is expected to be the busiest delivery day.

A new off-ramp won’t be open until next year.  Temecula officials wanted to have the 200-million dollar French Valley Parkway off-ramp at Cherry Street on the 15 Freeway open in December, but the latest construction timeline says it will not open until January.  The construction engineer says there wasn’t one giant problem causing the delay, just a series of minor challenges including how cold it’s been.

An eight-time Oscar nominee Peter O’Toole died Saturday at a London area hospital following a long illness. He was 81.

And Actor Tom Laughlin has died. Laughlin is best remembered for the 1971 film “Billy Jack.” He was 82.


A missing handmade nativity scene has been found and returned to the owner.  The hand-crafted figures stood outside the Roth family home in Temecula in the Harveston neighborhood when they were stolen last week.  Authorities found the white-painted silhouettes of Joseph, Mary and baby Jesus in a manger built with layered plywood cutouts, five days later on Sparkle Drive in Canyon Lake.
The Mega Millions jackpot is up to a whopping 550-million bucks. No one took home the jackpot in Friday’s drawing, making this week’s prize the fourth-largest in U.S. history.

“The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug” is ruling the theaters earning 73-point-seven-million over the weekend to easily top the box office list.
