A brush fire is burning in the foothills above Glendora. The Colby Fire has burned more than 1700 acres and homes are threatened. Several structures have been destroyed. Mandatory evacuations have been ordered. Nearly 600 firefighters on scene. Glendora Police have reportedly detained threepeople in connection with the fire investigation. Glendora schools and Citrus college are closed. Forecasters have extended a Red Flag fire warning for most of Southern California through 6pm tonight.
The Inland Empire was rocking and rolling again over night with two quakes shaking the region. A 3.8 quake centered seven miles west of Corona struck at 11:40 last night. And another quake measuring 3.2 shook the Fontana area at 1:50 this morning. There have been no reports of damage.
As warm windy weather continues, officials have extended a red flag warning for the Inland Empire through 6 tonight. It originally had been set to expire last night. With winds gusting up to 50 miles per hour in some areas and humidty as low as 5 percent, the fire danger remains very high.
JC Penney is laying off 2000 workers nationwide and closing 33 stores including the furniture outlet in the Arrow Plaza in Rancho Cucamonga. That store employs 32 people and will close in May.
There’s good news for parents whose kids bought Apple mobile apps without their permission. Under terms of a settlement , Apple is setting aside more than 32 million dollars to refund consumers for so-called unauthorized in-app purchases. Apple is also changing their billing practices that had allowed kids to make purchases without a password.
It’s a crowded field of nominees in Oscar’s Best Picture category. Nine films are up for the honor this year. The list includes “American Hustle,” “Captain Phillips,” “Dallas Buyers Club,” “Gravity,” “Her,” “Nebraska,” “Philomena,” “12 Years A Slave” and “The Wolf of Wall Street.” ”American Hustle” and “Gravity” lead the list of nominees with ten nominations each. ”Twelve Years A Slave” garnered nine nods.
