The Inland Empire has seen a big increase in whooping cough cases as health officials have declared a statewide epidemic. Latinos are the largest group affected by the whooping cough epidemic accounting for nearly half of the cases. Parents are reminded to get thier kids vaccinated.

Honda, Mazda and Nissan are recalling about 3 million older model vehicles worldwide because of  defective air bags.

  • Honda recalled 2 million vehicles worldwide, including 1 million in North America.. The vehicles were manufactured between April 2000 and October 2002. They cover the Civic, CR-V, Odyssey and Element.
  • Mazda recalled nearly 15,000 in North America. That recall covers the RX-8 and first-generation Mazda6.
  • Nissan’s recall affects  228,000 vehicles in North America, including the Infiniti FX35, Pathfinder and Cube.

The federal prison in the High Desert is on lockdown after two inmates were murdered over the weekend. The FBI officials is investigating the deaths of two unidentified inmates at the facility in Victorville late Saturday. All inmates at the prison are now confined to their cells until further notice.

A young boy is in the hospital after he nearly drowned in a Moreno Valley pool. Authorities say the seven-year-old boy was pulled from a residential swimming pool at a home on Gelding Way yesterday afternoon. Someone performed CPR on the child before firefighters arrived. The child was breathing when he was taken to a hospital.

Starbucks raising its drink prices by 5 to 20 cents starting tomorrow and packaged coffee in the grocery store will jump a dollar starting next month. Drought and disease have caused a rise in international coffee prices.
