Hollywood’s world-famous TCL Chinese Theatre (www.tclchinesetheatres.com), is honoring two-time Academy Award® winner Robert De Niro, who recently starred in Silver Linings Playbook and is Oscar®-nominated for “Best Supporting Actor.” The actor will get his handprint-footprint firmly planted on the sidewalk in a special ceremony on Monday, Feb. 4, 2013, at 9:45 a.m.

Robert De Niro, who is thought of as one of the greatest actors of his time, was born in New York City in 1943 to two artists. He was trained at the Stella Adler Conservatory and the American Workshop. He first gained fame for his role in ”Bang the Drum Slowly” (1973), but he gained his reputation as a volatile actor in “Mean Streets” (1973), which was his first film with director Martin Scorsese. In 1974 De Niro received an Academy Award® for best supporting actor for his role in “The Godfather: Part II” (1974) and received Academy Award® nominations for best actor in “Taxi Driver” (1976), “he Deer Hunter “(1978), and “Cape Fear” (1991), among others.

The hand and footprint Hollywood tradition to honor Robert De Niro is enthusiastically lauded by an honorary committee of filmmakers including Al Pacino, Martin Scorsese, Francis Ford Coppola, Joe Pesci, Irwin Winkler, Harvey Keitel and Morgan Freeman. Silver Linings Playbook, nominated for eight Academy Awards® is the first film in over 30 years that has been nominated in all four acting categories including one for Best Supporting Actor for De Niro.

Early recipients of the handprints and footprints were Mary Pickford and Douglas Fairbanks, while most recent honorees include Brad Pitt, George Clooney, Johnny Depp and Jennifer Aniston. In any given year, The TCL Chinese Theatre hosts over 40 red carpet film premieres and since it opened, it has hosted three Academy Award® ceremonies and numerous world premieres, including those for internationally-acclaimed film franchises, such as “Star Wars” and “Harry Potter.”

In an I Love Lucy episode, didn’t Lucy take John Wayne’s hand prints back to their hotel for a souvenir?! So what is your favorite Robert DeNiro film? Let me know on my facebook page by clicking here.
