The space disaster thriller “Gravity” is flying high after Sunday’s 86th Academy Awards.  The film picked up seven awards, including Best Director for Alfonso Cuaron.  The Best Picture Oscar went to “12 Years a Slave.”  Director Steve McQueen’s film also earned Lupita Nyong’o the Best Supporting Actress award.  ”Dallas Buyers Club” took home three awards, including Matthew McConaughey for Best Actor and Jared Leto for Best Supporting Actor.  Cate Blanchett won the Best Actress Oscar for “Blue Jasmine.”

Oscar host Ellen DeGeneres is making Twitter history.  What started as a simple selfie with Meryl Streep grew into an all-star photo, which DeGeneres said she hoped would become the most re-tweeted picture ever.  Toward the end of the broadcast, DeGeneres announced that they’d met their goal, and crashed Twitter in the process.

An experienced mountain biker is dead after leaving for a 18-mile ride on Skyline Trailhead in Corona. 34-year old Andres Marin left his home around 7am Saturday, and later the same day telephoned home saying he got lost, had been injured, but would try to make it home before dark. Researchers say the more you use Facebook to connect to friends, the less self-control you have.  The Columbia Business School and University of Pittsburgh study says more time on the social networking site equals less ability to control certain habits.  The study said increased binge eating, lower credit scores and higher levels of credit card debt were tied to those who had “strong ties” to their social networks.

Will and Jaden Smith’s “After Earth” and the sketch comedy “Movie 43″ are topping the list of losers for the 2014 Razzie Awards.  The tongue-in-cheek award ceremony targeting the year in cinematic sins named “Movie 43″ the Worst Movie of the Year Saturday, adding Worst Directors and Worst Screenplay to the movie’s trio of dishonors.  The Razzies also delivered a one-two punch for the Smith son and father duo, giving Jaden the Worst Actor title and dad Will Worst Supporting Actor. They also combined for the Worst Screen Combo. Determined by online votes, the Razzies also singled out Tyler Perry for Worst Actress for “A Madea Christmas” and Kim Kardashian for Worst Supporting Actress in “Tyler Perry’s Temptation: Confessions of a Marriage Counselor.”
