Exactly 71 years ago, on December 7th, 1941, at 7:55am Hawaiian time, the Japanese launched a deadly aerial attack on Pearl Harbor in Oahu, the headquarters of the United States Pacific Fleet. Described by President Franklin D. Roosevelt, it was a “date which will live in infamy” that propelled the United States into World War II. The United States declared war on Japan the following day. Approximately 2,400 Americans perished on that fateful day 71 years ago. 12 ships sank. Others were damaged. Today I went to visit my 83 year mother in Colton. December 7th is also her birthday. She turned 12 years old that day, and remembers hearing the news. She told once,..”so many of my friends brothers, fathers, uncles & just boys never came back home to Indio’…(she grew up in the Coachella Valley, Indio CA). Let us never forget all those who fought for our freedom & lost their lives at Pearl Harbor and in World War II. If you love your freedom, thank a Vet! Connect with me on Face Book.
