The company that controls the King’s image and likeness is cracking down on Las Vegas chapels that book Elvis-themed weddings and otherwise embrace his persona. Authentic Brands Group (ABG), which licenses Elvis Presley-related merchandise, issued a cease-and-desist letter to several Las Vegas chapels. Those businesses targeted include chapels that specialize in, or offer, Elvis ceremonies or have the King’s image as part of their name and logo. Hopefully they can come to a licensing arrangement to continue business as usual. Some are saying the timing is because of the new biopic “Elvis” coming to theaters later this month (6/24), which is expected to regenerate interest in Presley’s career.
