Christie Brinkley opens up about the downfall of her marriage to Billy Joel in her new book Uptown Girl. Brinkley says they were soul mates but because of Joel’s battle with alcoholism, it got to a point where she just couldn’t live with him anymore. Brinkley says, “Booze was the other woman,” in their marriage. She cites specific incidents when drinking led to heartache, confusion and worry including the time when Joel left during their daughter Alexa Ray’s fifth birthday party and was missing for two days. Brinkley was initially hesitant to divulge anything negative about Joel who she remains friends with, but says it was the now sober singer, who told her to share the whole story.
