Who knew the inspiration for Matt LeBlanc’s Friends character, “Joey” came from another, “Joey ?” Joey Lawrence claims, “Joey Tribbiani,” was based on Lawrence’s Blossom character, “Joey Russo.” Lawrence says Matt would attend tapings of Blossom and take notes. The creators of Friends reportedly wanted LeBlanc to bring the innocence of Russo to Tribbiani, so he wouldn’t come off as an unlovable womanizer. Supposedly, LeBlanc’s character wasn’t even originally named Joey, but it was later changed because the Russo character was so well-liked.
