A Delta flight bound for Atlanta had to turn around and head back to the airport shortly after takeoff from São Paulo after a problem with one of its engines. The flight was only in the air for about 10 minutes before landing safely, which is exactly what trained crews are prepared to do in a situation like this.
Pilots are trained over and over again for engine related emergencies, and it is important to remember that an airplane can land safely on just one engine. If something like this ever happens on a flight, the biggest thing for passengers is not to panic. This is serious… but it is also something crews practice for.
