Never knew you could sue over choreography like this!
Darrin Henson might not ring a bell right away—unless you were a millennial like me with Darrin’s Dance Grooves on repeat. But he’s the choreographer behind the iconic “Bye, Bye, Bye” routine from NSYNC. And let’s be real—I watched that video an unhealthy number of times just for that dance alone.
Now Henson is reportedly taking action against Sony Music, claiming they didn’t have the rights to license his choreography for use by Marvel. That routine shows up in the opening scene of Deadpool & Wolverine, where Deadpool does his thing to Bye Bye Bye—a moment that definitely got people talking again.
And honestly, it worked. The scene sparked a huge wave of nostalgia—memes everywhere, people relearning the dance, and even a noticeable boost in streams for NSYNC.
Henson’s argument is basically this: the choreography is his intellectual property, and if it was licensed without his permission, he deserves compensation. He also claims he never signed anything giving up those rights. More here.
And you know what… he might have a point. I wouldn’t be surprised if he walks away with something.
