Waymo Car Nearly Hit by Train in Austin | Freddy Rivera |

waymo

A Waymo car in Austin was caught on video barely missing a train, and it honestly makes you wonder what we are doing with this technology. I see these cars all over Los Angeles, but none yet in the Inland Empire and that might actually be a good thing. Moments like this keep stacking up. There was the Waymo that kept circling LAX and would not let the passengers out. Another one wandered into an empty grass field like it was lost. It all raises the real question. Would you actually trust one of these with your life?

My answer is no. Not yet. People will still jump in for the experience or for the social media moment, and I get it, the coolness factoer is strong. But the reality is that the buzz is moving faster than the safety. This Austin clip is the latest example, but stories like this are happening in other cities too. Until these cars from Waymo can handle the unexpected without putting people at risk, I am staying out of the backseat.
