A small Cessna flipped over during takeoff at Cable Airport in Upland this week, and thankfully nobody was seriously hurt. ABC7 says it happened Wednesday morning and that it appeared to be a failed takeoff, with the exact cause still unclear.
This one definitely caught my attention because Cable is super close to where I live, and I have actually taken a flying lesson there before. I even sometimes hang out in the viewing area just to watch the planes come in and land. It is a tiny airport, and if you know the area, you know Cable has had its share of incidents over the years. ABC7 also noted that it is frequently used for pilot training, which makes this kind of story hit even closer to home.
There is something about seeing a plane overturned at a small local airport that feels very different from hearing about a big airport story on the news. Cable has always had that old school Inland Empire aviation feel. It is small, super active and tucked into a part of the IE where flying still feels very close and very real. So yes, this one got my attention fast. Glad they’re ok.
