If you grew up in the 1980s, or even caught the reruns later, you probably remember Knight Rider.
The series starred David Hasselhoff as Michael Knight, but let’s be honest… the real star for a lot of us was KITT, the black Pontiac Trans Am that could talk, drive itself, and somehow made every kid believe the future was going to be way cooler than it turned out.
A new documentary series called Knight Rider Declassified takes fans behind the scenes of the classic show and looks back at how Michael Knight, KITT, and that unforgettable red scanner light became such a huge part of 80s pop culture.
I do remember seeing episodes and being completely fascinated by KITT. I’m pretty sure that car planted something in my brain, because years later I ended up buying a black Audi A5. Now I have ChatGPT talking to me while I drive (LOL), so really all I need is a black leather jacket and I’m basically there.
Knight Rider originally aired from 1982 to 1986, but the idea of a smart car with a personality feels more relevant now than ever.
