Apple TV just released the first full trailer for Cape Fear, and yeah… this thing looks dark. Very dark.

The new limited series is clearly pulling inspiration from the legendary 1991 version directed by Martin Scorsese starring Robert De Niro, but this feels even more psychological and disturbing right out of the gate.

This time, Javier Bardem takes over the role of Max Cady. The series also stars Amy Adams and Patrick Wilson as the married couple at the center of the nightmare, while Scorsese and Steven Spielberg are both attached as executive producers.

What’s interesting is this does not feel like a simple remake. It feels more like a modern reinterpretation of the original story, expanded into a 10 episode psychological thriller series instead of a single film.

I’ll absolutely be watching this one. Premieres June 5th on Apple TV.
