Eddie Murphy Reportedly In Talks To Star In George Clinton Biopic

Eddie Murphy is reportedly in talks to star as Parliament-Funkadelic leader George Clinton in an upcoming biopic.

According to Deadline, Murphy will co-produce the film with Davis Entertainment’s John Davis, Catherine Davis and John Fox.

The report says that the producers are currently “tying down rights with the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer and Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award winner, and then they will set writers and shop the project.”

Murphy currently has a three-picture deal with Amazon that came after the success of Coming 2 America.

Clinton is regarded, along with James Brown and Sly Stone, as one of the foremost innovators of funk music. He developed an influential and eclectic form of funk music during the 1970s that drew on science fiction, outlandish fashion, psychedelia, and surreal humor.

He launched his solo career with the 1982 album Computer Games and would go on to influence 1990s hip-hop and G-funk.

Clinton was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1997, alongside 15 other members of Parliament-Funkadelic. In 2019, he and Parliament-Funkadelic were given Grammy Lifetime Achievement Awards.
